Who are we?
The Orthodox Women's Society of the Archdiocese of Vadului, Feleacului and Cluj operates within, with the support and under the spiritual guidance of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese of Vadului, Feleacului and Cluj.
Mission The Association of the Orthodox Women's Society of the Archdiocese of Vadului, Feleacului and Cluj aims to promote, strengthen and valorize the Orthodox Christian faith in the family and in the community, by strengthening the role of Christian women in contemporary society, to cultivate the spirit of communion and mutual support, dignity, respect and human solidarity.
Aim The Association of the Orthodox Women's Society of the Archdiocese of Vadului, Feleacului and Cluj is to provide support and assistance to vulnerable people in the community, by capitalizing on their individual, group and community potential, through social assistance in the social, educational, cultural and economic fields, becoming an active factor in society.
History
The "Orthodox Women's Society" in Cluj was founded in 1921 as a response to post-war human needs, focusing on supporting orphans and war invalids, who faced major material and emotional difficulties in the aftermath of World War I.
Vulnerable groups were seeking support to overcome the suffering caused by the loss of loved ones, ill health and financial difficulties. So Christian women from different walks of life came together out of a common desire to help and formed the Orthodox Women's Society, offering help and support to those affected by the war to reintegrate into the community.
In the context of the Transylvanian Unification, the Orthodox Women's Society of Cluj supported the work of Bishop Nicolae Ivan, the first local Orthodox hierarch, in rebuilding the diocese of Vad, Feleac and Cluj. Subsequently, during the communist period, the organization was disbanded for political reasons, as it was considered inappropriate by the authorities due to its Christian Orthodox orientation.
The Society was re-established in 1994, thanks to the efforts of Metropolitan Bartolomeu Anania, the then Archbishop of Vad, Feleac and Cluj. Under the spiritual guidance of the Most Reverend Vasile Someșanul, vicar bishop, the society has constantly offered help to the elderly in the community. Since 2001, the Orthodox Women's Society of the Archdiocese of Vadului, Feleacului and Cluj has been accredited as a non-profit organization by the Ministry of Labour and Social Solidarity, providing social assistance services to adults in the community.
