"Saint Basil the Great" program

"St. Basil the Great" is a social program that has been running for 30 years and aims to support vulnerable groups such as lonely elderly people, people with low incomes or in disadvantaged situations, regardless of their religious, ethnic or other affiliation. Through this program, 85 grandparents in need receive constant material and emotional support, thus fighting together against loneliness.

How do we help our grandparents?

  • we constantly provide basic food;
  • we provide emotional support to beneficiaries through home visits and telephone calls, developing a relationship of mutual trust with them;
  • facilitate their access to medical services by finding a family doctor, making appointments with specialists, picking up prescriptions, purchasing medicines, accompanying them to medical visits, etc;
  • we provide assistance in obtaining social rights;
  • provide support in dealing with public institutions, utility providers or other service providers;
  • we constantly organize information seminars on various topics of interest to our beneficiaries;
  • we organize socialization workshops at the society's premises or in the open air in order to avoid the risk of social isolation;

The charity conference on Saturday, November 22, "Altruism and Empathy," was a remarkable event that opened new horizons of knowledge and personal introspection. Prof. Mircea Miclea, PhD, and Archdeacon Adrian Sorin Mihalache, PhD, addressed the topic from complementary perspectives—neuroscience, psychology, and references to faith. Questions from the audience sparked a lively discussion, and many participants left with a new perspective on solidarity, generosity, and responsibility toward others. All proceeds were donated to the "Sfântul Hristofor" Pediatric Palliative Care Center in Sânnicoara. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
